All About Dogs

An age-old saying tells us that “you are what you eat”. While this was probably meant for people, the saying still applies to dogs. Yes, your dog is affected by what type of dog food they eat on a daily basis. In today’s society, dogs have become a huge part of the family. Everything from ridiculously adorable dog sweaters to steps to help them get up in your bed is being sold on a daily basis. This means that we have placed an extra emphasis on the importance of our dogs over the last few years. We want them to live longer, healthier lives and be a part of our families for as long as possible. Therefore, an increased focus has to be shifted onto what we feed our pets every day.

Dogs will eat pretty much anything that they can get their paws on. In the “good old days” it wasn’t uncommon for dogs to pick up road-kill or some other stray animal and feast on it. This was thought to be completely normal and in some places still is. However, with the amount of diseases going around in some animals these days, it’s probably not the ideal situation. Also with a huge increase in the number of dogs that live strictly indoors, this has changed this philosophy. The dog depends on us as their sole means of survival. In turn, it is up to us to provide the best dog food for them at all times.

Many dog lovers get into the habit of giving them table food all the time. Although the dogs absolutely love this and will go crazy for it, it’s not always the best idea. Many people have been in the habit of throwing their dog a bone after eating a steak. However, this really isn’t good for the dog. Even though they love chewing the fat off of the bone, it isn’t healthy for a dog at all.

There are many table foods that are toxic to dogs. While most of them won’t kill them instantly, if they eat enough of them it could. These foods include grapes, cooked meats, nuts, spoiled food and much more.

Coffee, tea, and chocolate are more well-known things that can hurt dogs. They can make their heart race and even affect their central nervous system. Anytime you give them a stimulant like this, it could have devastating impact on the dog. Raisins and nuts are also bad for dogs. These foods are toxic to them and they can damage the kidneys.

While you might think that you’re doing them a favor by giving them table food, you’re really not. It’s best to stick with dog food and keep them healthy.

There is a lot of dog food on the market in today’s world. This site will help you sort through which ones are worth buying and which ones will stay on the shelf. All of the additives, vitamins, and other things that many dog foods advertise are nothing more than filler and don’t really do that much good. Is it really worth an extra $10 per bag?
